subaru by Common DactylThe Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce is trying to get some publicity by having the world’s longest parade of Subarus.

The Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce will be working with Dewey Griffin Subaru in Bellingham to promote this event.

The current record holder is Moscow where on August 15, 2015, 549 Subarus lined up in the Moscow Raceway. Randy Parten, the new president of the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce hopes is hoping for around 700 Subarus.

The parade will be on June 5, if you have a Subaru and want to join the fun you can register at
There are strict rules for breaking the record. Subarus must form a continuous line in a 2-mile stretch of road with no more than two vehicle lengths between vehicles and the count must be verified by counters along the route as well as aerial photography.

Vehicles will be staged in the Birch Bay Waterslides parking lot on Saturday, June 4. The chamber plans to move about 100 cars an hour through the staging area, where participants will learn about the route and protocol for the record.

They will be live entertainment from violinist Swil Kanim and others. The emcee for the event will be former (1982-1990) Seattle Seahawks kicker Norm Johnson, who was known as “Mr. Automatic” for his consistent accuracy

The parade will begin at noon on Sunday, June 5 and will run up a two-mile stretch of Birch Bay Drive, starting at the Harborview intersection and ending just before Birch Bay State Park.

“Birch Bay is a great place to try to crack this record, because if you have to be moving slowly in a long line of cars, you couldn’t ask for a better view,” Parten said.

Contests and prizes will be awarded after the parade back at the waterslide. Some categories will be the longest distance to get here or most miles on a car.
